Well Plugging in Texas

The State of Texas prescribes the specifications for plugging water wells. Those specifications are designed to prevent future contamination of the groundwater resources. The tubing and pump, along with any removable casing must be withdrawn from the well, and the well must be filled “from the bottom up” with a cement or bentonite plugging material. The simple pouring of cement or bentonite from the top is not acceptable, may lead to contamination of the water supply, and is unlawful.

The licensed plugger must submit a written report to the State of Texas attesting to the depth, diameter, and plugging materials used.
